​1.Rereading through your wonderful Klaus series with Dan Mora, and I get the feeling that Klaus is very much like Superman, was some of Klaus's writing based on Superman's perspective?

​Hi ！

​To some extent. I write Superman and Klaus as 'ideal men', exemplars of the best that masculinity has to offer. For me, both Superman and Klaus are grown-up, 'individuated' (in the Jungian sense) men who are strong enough, tough enough and sure enough in themselves that they can freely express compassion, connection, and kindness. That they happen to have immortality or the power to effect change and repel bullies is what makes them action superheroes!

你好！某种程度上来说是的，我把超人和圣诞人写成是“完美男人”，是男性气质所能达到的至高典范。对我来说，超人和圣诞人都是完全体、“个性化”（指荣格意义上）的男人，足够顽强、足够坚韧、足够自信，可以自由地表达同理心、共情和善良。他们也刚好拥有不朽之力，或改变和击败恶魔的力量，这就是他们能成为动作超级英雄的理由！

​3.I read somewhere that you had a Spider-man pitch with Klaus Janson, which would include a story of a Peter more like the version by Steve Ditko, meeting with the Peter who is married to MJ and makes a lot of money. I was wondering how would that story end?

​There was a whole story, with Mysterio as the villain, leading up to this moment, (the only version of Spider-Man I ever liked – I came to Ditko late when I was 11 and my dad brought home a box of comics containing the first year of Spider-Man issues! Heedless of their value, I swapped them for a bunch of recent Neal Adams Batman books I'd missed. I hated Spider-Man in costume and flipped forward to the Aunt May scenes and pages where he was in his garret room sewing the Spidey suit or catching cold, which I found more oddly involving and novel), but the emotional climax came when sad sack Ditko Peter, whom we've grown to love and root for, gets his chance to trick and replace the smug, successful Romita guy! The weedy Ditko Spidey's in a position to take the Romita Peter's place and have a taste of everything he ever wanted – but with great power and all that… he saves the other guy and saves the day. At the end he's back to being Spider-Man the menace, his good deeds unsung, but his heart pure, his principles intact.

​The main '616' Spider-Man learns a lesson about valuing what he's achieved and the Ditko Spidey keeps his fierce pride and his integrity - but has the potential to turn into Rorschach! In some alternate Marvel universe, Romita never came on board, Stan gave Ditko free reign and Objectivist ideas were increasingly given dramatic form in mid-60s Spider-Man stories!

​We're left to wonder if the whole thing was a Mysterio-induced delusion... and which of the two Spider-Mans experienced it! It was a weird kind of It's A Wonderful Life for Peter Parker. I used a variant of the idea in All Star Superman #8 when Zibarro rejects his chance to escape the Bizarro World in Superman’s place.

​4.Recently Nicholas Hoult got casted as Lex Luthor, congratulations for him, and I wonder what is your ideal version of Superman and Lex Luthor relationship to be? And do you think Lex Luthor being Clark Kent childhood friend from Smallville is beneficial or damage for Superman world building?

​最近尼古拉斯·霍尔特要演卢瑟了，恭喜他得到这个角色，想问问你怎么看待超人和卢瑟间的关系？你觉得卢瑟作为克拉克在小镇童年时期的朋友这样的设定对超人来说有利还是有弊？

​I prefer when Luthor and Superman don't know one another from childhood. There are some great stories where they both grew up in Smallville and have shared history but for me, that approach shrinks Superman's world to where he need never have left Smallville.  

​

I like a Superman and Luthor who are both on a collision course with each other even though they don't know it. I like Lex as someone who's moderately successful and doing alright before Superman shows up. It's Superman's appearance that makes Luthor. Luthor is motivated by his resentment of Superman to become an almost superhuman version of himself. Tragically, his flaws translate his obsession with Superman into jealousy and hatred.

​

Lex could never admit this of course, but Superman understands the dynamic, and probably feels responsible.  He wishes that Luthor could cultivate his exceptional talents in a more positive direction.  

​​我更喜欢卢瑟和超人从小就不认识的设定，他们一同在小镇长大，有着共同过往的设定下有不少精彩的故事，但对我来说，这种处理是将超人的世界缩小到了他根本不需要离开小镇的程度。

​我喜欢超人和卢瑟之间不自知的摩擦碰撞。我喜欢莱克斯的设定是，他在超人出现之前已经取得了一定的成功，行事正常，是超人的出现造就了卢瑟。卢瑟对超人的怨恨促使他成为一个近乎超人类版本的自己。可悲的是，他性格中的缺陷将他对超人的那份爱恋转化为了嫉妒和仇恨。

​当然，莱克斯永远不会承认这一点，但超人了解他的这种心态，可能会感到自己有责任感，希望卢瑟能够让他的非凡才能向更积极的方向发展。
